You can just pop in your disc and sit back to enjoy the game. Things weren’t always that way. While the Xbox 360 could play almost the entire Xbox catalogue, the Xbox One couldn’t say the same
ElDudorino 4 years ago #3. You need custom firmware on your PS3 to play PS2 games if you don't have one of the OG models. EvilResident 4 years ago #4. Ok so There’s only 3 PS3 models (all phattys) that can play PS2 games; CECHA01 60GB. CECHB01 20GB. (Both feature hardware emulation) CECHE01 80GB. (Software (partial) based emulation)
You also forgot to mention playing PS2 games on ps4 using remote play on vita. But i really don't think a raw ps2 game is possible on psvita. I remember back in school when people had rumors of psp games playing ps2 games, sadly that was all fake, no way could final fantasy X run on that portable hardware that is somewhat of a watered down ps2 that mid tier between ps1 and ps2. As many of you know the Sony PlayStation 3 is region free for PS3 Games. Historically it's always been well known that PS2 and PS1 Games are region locked on a backwards compatible system. You would be forgiven for thinking that the only way you could play your favorite PS2 Japanese Imports on a PS3 is through a PS2 ISO File.
See answer (1) Best Answer. Copy. It can save about 150 - 195 games. It has 120 GB of memory. :P. No if the games are large files it can hold less than a couple dozen. There are games titles with DLC add ons as large as 14 GB for a single game . My 120 GB PS3 was almost filled with less than 80 games including 18 PS1 titles and a dozen mini games.
The only PS2 game that will look good on an HDTV is Gran Turismo 4, and that's only if you enable 1080i mode. Opinion, not fact. Yet again, you can make any PS2 game look great if you know what you're doing with your TV. My own opinion is you don't even need 480p enabled to be in awe of some games.
I also enjoyed playing PS2 Classics on it. Almost a year later, my system started to develop overheating issues. The fan would change speeds a lot while playing PS2 and PS3 content. After having that problem for a couple months, it would start to overheat after a couple of minutes of playing games. I put Arctic Silver 5 on the Cell and RSX in
-PS1 games and PS3 games will play without issue, and the console will not have had any YLoD issues in the past.-This freezing issue will only occur when the console is "cold" so to speak, if you wait until the CELL/RSX have heated up to something like 60-70C then the games will launch completely fine.
Yes and no. The answer is actually a bit more complicated. While a stock cecha/b/c/e cannot play ps2 titles from other regions a ps3 on cfw absolutely can run those discs in a ripped iso format. Yes it can On the Japanese model CECHA00 and the Hong Kong model CECHA12.
The Japan only PS2 version of Fist of the northstar Arksys fighting game is unplayable with constant slowed down framerate from the target of needed 60. Some games work, but can have "wavy" rendering for UI elements, some other separate elements etc. - PS3 emulator is much worse than ones available for PC I would think, though Sony's is nicer
Some games released on the original PlayStation, the PS2, and the PS3 can also be played on the new PS5. However, there's a catch to this: unlike PS4 games, you can't use the original CDs or DVDs

Anywhere I have wifi I can play ps3 games from my psp. If your PS3 is running 3.55 firmware you can easily do it by installing a CFW among other things, if your ps3 didn't come with 3.55 firmware you have to downgrade your system by means of soldering (some models cant do this either).
IMHO, this is the last good time period to snag PS3/PS2 games. I bought 8 desirable PS3 games the other day for $7/each in a bundle off eBay:
